A molecular biomarker is a measurable biological molecule that indicates normal biological processes, disease states or responses to therapeutic intervention.

Molecular Biomarker refers to a measurable biological molecule indicating normal physiological processes, pathogenic processes, or responses to therapeutic interventions, typically derived from DNA, RNA, proteins, metabolites, or epigenetic modifications. Biomarkers can serve multiple roles including diagnostic confirmation, prognosis prediction, patient stratification, pharmacodynamic monitoring, and safety assessment, measured in tissues, blood, urine, or other biofluids.

The biopharmaceutical industry relies heavily on molecular biomarkers to enable precision medicine, improve clinical trial success rates, and support regulatory decision-making. Biomarker-guided development identifies patient populations most likely to respond to targeted therapies, such as selecting oncology patients based on tumour mutations or receptor expression.
